Pink Freedom hedge rose.

This is a shrub rose with a very dense growth habit. Once planted in your garden, it will grow quickly into a 3-4 foot tall bush.

The inch thick canes are enrobed in an abundance of healthy foliage which resists both insects and diseases.

The 3.5 inch quartered blooms begin arriving in waves in June and don't stop until halted by a hard freeze. The lovely, fragrant flowers occur in nodding clusters. At peak bloom, the shrub will be covered by them.

The Freedom rose is available in 2 colors: the pink depicted above and the red below.

The red is deep, rich and velvety while the pink flowers are flagrantly feminine. If you can't decide between them, plant them both. They will enhance different areas in your landscape.

Expect 4 feet of growth the first year (from a bare root plant). You will have a dense, 6 foot shrub the second year. Even if you cut it back hard in the spring.

To make of hedge of Freedom roses, space the plants 3 feet apart. They will grow together in their first season, forming a solid hedge.

Plant a Freedom Hedge rose if you want to be free from:

  • Spraying against bugs and diseases.
  • Fussy pruning. Just whack them back with a Hedge Hog each spring and remove any dead canes from the base.
  • An unsightly view.
  • Prying eyes looking into your outdoor living space.
  • Pampered roses that barely bloom.

You will want to install as many of these tough shrub roses as you have room for.

Plant Freedom in full sun in zones 6-9.
